About the program…
Since many estate plans contain life insurance, it is critically important to properly evaluate the viability of policies in a sustained low interest rate environment. Nearly all life insurance policies are impacted to some extent by interest rates. Older policies were likely purchased when interest rates were much higher and those original funding levels may be insufficient to maintain coverage to mortality. Advisors need to have a working knowledge of the potential impact this may have on their clients and what alternatives might be available. The increased estate and gift tax exemption may also indicate a potential change in the goals and objectives of life insurance used in an estate plan.
