About the Program
Join us for a unique opportunity to hear from a few past recipients of EPC Cleveland’s Distinguished Estate Planner award. This interdisciplinary panel will feature professionals from four different disciplines who will discuss estate planning in each of their disciplines, some tips and tools that they are currently using, and how this uncertain tax landscape has affected their practice.
About the Speakers
Howard B. Edelstein, CLU®, AEP®, has been in the life insurance and financial services business for 50 years, having started as a campus intern while still a student at Kenyon College. Today Howard, with his son, Brian Edelstein CFP®, CLU®, ChFC®, operates Edelstein Financial/ Northwestern Mutual in downtown Cleveland. A long-time member of the Estate Planning Council, Howard was the Council’s 2016 Distinguished Estate Planner, and is a 50-year member of The Million Dollar Round Table. Outside of his professional activities, Howard is involved heavily in the community. He is a Trustee of The Cleveland Council on World Affairs and The Philander Chase Conservancy (the land trust of Kenyon College). He is also President of The Union Club Foundation, and Co- Chair of The Cleveland Committee on Foreign Relations.
Ginger F. Mlakar, Esq., CPA, AEP® serves as in-house legal counsel at the Cleveland Foundation. As Senior Director, Philanthropic Services, she oversees the Cleveland Foundation’s donor stewardship program. She came to the Cleveland Foundation in July 2009 after 16 years practicing law in the areas of estate and charitable gift planning and administration. Ginger is currently on the board for the National Association of Estate Planners and Councils and is an AEP® Accredited Estate Planner. She is an active fellow of the American College of Estate and Trust Council. Ginger received the Estate Planning Council of Cleveland’s 2019 Distinguished Estate Planner Award.
Radd L. Riebe, AEP®, JD, ASA is a Managing Director in the Valuation Advisory group at Stout. He has extensive experience in the firm’s Trust and Estate Advisory Services group. He has presented continuing education seminars on various subjects in business valuation and published articles on estate and gift tax valuation topics. He currently serves as the chair of the Valuations Committee for Trusts & Estates magazine. He was selected as the 2014 Distinguished Estate Planner by EPC Cleveland.
Roger L. Shumaker, Esq. Senior of Counsel with McDonald Hopkins LLC, concentrates his practice in tax, estate planning, charitable planning, estate and trust administration and sophisticated wealth transfer planning. He has been a member the Estate Planning and Probate Practice Group at McDonald Hopkins LLC since 1986. Mr. Shumaker is a graduate of Manchester University (Indiana) and Case Western Reserve University School of Law. Mr. Shumaker is a member of the Bars of the State of Ohio and Indiana, the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association and a Fellow in the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel as well as an OSBA Board Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law. He has been included in Best Lawyers in America (Trusts & Estates category) since 1991, is listed in the Ohio Super Lawyers from 2004 to the present, and was selected as the 2005 Distinguished Estate Planner by EPC Cleveland. Mr. Shumaker is a member of the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army Greater Cleveland and of the board of trustees of The Cleveland Pregnancy Center.

Continuing Education – EPC Cleveland will request approval for this program from the CFP® Board of Standards for CFP® designation holders.
